House Bill 1558 update (continuing the B&O tax exemption for beekeepers)

Mark EmrichHouse Bill 1558 is up for another hearing in Olympia. We will be going back to Olympia on Tuesday to meet with our representatives. If you can make it, please come to the HB 1558 Hearing at the Senate Committee on Agriculture and Water & Rural Economic Development meeting on Tuesday March 19th at 10 A.M.

These tax exemptions expire on July 1, 2013. We are asking the Washington State Legislature to remove the sunset clause on the exemption and need you to contact your representative to help. House Bill 1558 supports Beekeepers. Call your legislators to remind them of the importance of bees in agriculture. The exemption of the B & O tax is a big cost that commercial beekeepers are expected to pay. Out of state beekeepers who do 75% of fruit pollination do not pay this, only those registered with the state and only several have ever paid this tax. We are indeed agriculture.

Please support beekeepers by contacting your representatives.
