Dr Tim Lawrence, PhD, Associate Professor, County Director WSU Extension, Presentation

November 10 @ 9:30 am - 12:30 pm

Dr Tim Lawrence, PhD, Associate Professor, County Director Washington State University Extension, Island County will present a lecture on the state of the honey bee and ramifications of new biological treatments for honey bees at 9:30 AM Saturday, Nov. 10 at the Chimacum Library, Humphrey Room (620 Cedar Ave, Port Hadlock, WA 98339).  Dr Lawrence is a dynamic speaker and has presented to East Jefferson Bees before involving his research project into the effects of neonicotinoid pesticides on bee populations.  Get there early for a seat.

His Lecture will deal with:

The common European honey bee, Apis mellifera, faces an uncertain future due to biological threats, as well as pressure put on them by humans. Keeping bees now is far more difficult now than in the past. In addition to several bacterial diseases that have long plagued beekeepers, new threats such as parasitic mites, viruses, and other pathogens working symbiotically, also pose great threats to honey bee health. Loss of habitat, altered ecosystems, and pesticide exposure further compound the difficulty in maintaining honey bees for both small and large beekeepers. This presentation will cover an overview of these issues, some of the focus of WSU in addressing areas of concern, and what everyone can do to make meaningful contributions to the health of honey bees and native bees alike.

All are welcome.
